...ride the white pony

hey guys i just picked up my first moped a few weeks ago (96 tomos targa lx) and wanna meet up for some rides. only problem is i am having trouble getting it registered since its never been registered in the state of florida. therefore to get it registered the tax collectors office downtown requires you have a bill of sale (which i have) with either a "certificate of origin" from the manufacturer and/or a previous registration. come to find out i cannot get a "COI" through tomos usa since i am not the original owner so both of those requirements cannot be fulfilled. any ideas/recommendations? or anyone ever have to deal with this bullshit?? thanks in advance and hope to meet up soon.

hey Ian, first off welcome. The employees of the tag agency must go through courses on how not to do their job. This is a common problem with people trying to register mopeds. All you need is a bill of sale which you say you have. On the bill of sale needs to be the vin number. Im going to attach a link, which clearly states that you only need a bill of sale to register it. In particular read section III, ownership documentation. Highlight the sections and print this out and take it with you. If they still try to give you a hard time, after they have seen this print out, ask to speak to the manager, and call Tallahassee. Sometimes it takes a bit of force to get them to realize they are wrong, dont let them tell you that it cant be registered. Keep your eye on this forum for up coming rides, and we usually send out a mass text when we are all getting together for a ride, your number will be added to the list. Good Luck!
