please tell me one of you has an A35
sup dudes,
do any of you guys have a spare A35 engine you want to get rid of? i'm facing heartbreaking moped blues right now.
somehow, the threading where the cylinder studs screw into got stripped on one port, which means i have a menacing air leak on my top end/cylinder. please tell me there is hope. if i can't find that i'm going to have to ditch my tomos and start trying to rebuild up raniel's busted E50, and hopefully have something for the rally.
i feel like crying

i heard about this.
i was lurking through forums and saw this: http://www.treatland.tv/recoil-fix-thread-M6-thread-kit-p/recoil-fix-a-thread-kit.htm
but i've been cursed with having a tomos in the situation, and the threading for an A35 is M7, not M6.
have you ever had any experience with having to take things to a shop to get repaired, like any shops you'd recommend? or will any auto-mechanic be able to do this? also, this is a totally off the wall question but do you know how much some labor like this would cost?

why don't you re-thread the hole with a tap and die set?

keep in mind that your going to have to go up a size. tomos being m7, your going to have to go at least to m8, if it works well. then the issue becomes finding an m8 stud and will it fit through the cylinder and head.

Tap and die- Requires you to go oversize
Helicoil- Allows you to retain your original thread size
Tap and die will be an issue for you because, as Jon said, you'd have to go one size larger, and there is no commercially available M8 stud that happens to be the same length as a stock Tomos stud. You could always cut something to length and then use a die, but I'm not sure you want to go through all that.
Follow Buk's advice... search garages on yellow pages, call up, inquire about a helicoil job on a small engine

the way the heli-coil works is they drill out the stud hole so its a little bit larger, then they use a tap to cut new threads to insert the heli-coil. The heli-coil has the same interior size as your original stud hole, so they screw the heli-coil into the hole and then its just like new. You buy a new tomos stud and screw it right in. good to go.
Heres a kit for a M7 x 1 x 10.5mm for about $30, perhaps you could do it yourself, its not that hard to do.

I believe the shop up near Bennett and 50 could probably do the work for you...Problem is most shops charge $60 to $80 an hour for labor. Be sure and get a price first!
